January Favourites

Hey there! This is pretty much self explanatory but basically these are the eight products/tools that I have been using non stop throughout the month of January. I would like to apologise in advance for the dodgy-ness of the photos, I tried my best and took these photos a couple of times, but the sun just didn't want to come out. I try not to use flash usually, but i guess this is the exception. 

Garnier Miracle Skin Perfecter BB Cream for Oily Skin

As some of you may know I received this BB cream for Christmas and it’s basically the only thing I’ve worn on my face since. Unfortunately I came to the realisation that the medium is too dark for me so I’ve gone out and purchased the light/clair shade as well, so now I can mix the two and get the perfect shade. In a nutshell; this BB crème is amazing, it has good coverage, leaves a nice dewy look to the skin (which you can always powder), reduces you pore size and has agents that work to reduce and heal blemishes. So unlike wearing a foundation that will often cause you to get more pimples or worsen your acne, this will do the opposite and reduce their appearance both short term (through the coverage of the cream) and long term (the working agents). I’ll definitely be doing full review on this in the very near future, so stay tuned!

Neutrogena Rapid Clear Blackhead Eliminating Daily Scrub

I am absolutely in LOVE with this facial scrub. I've always had trouble with blackheads but have never found a great face wash specifically targeted for them. I'm not saying this has removed every blackhead from my face, but it definitely has been a huge help in reducing their prevalence and overall I've had less breakouts this month.  It has small orange exfoliating beads that leave you skin feeling zesty and fresh which I love, but they aren't too harsh so you can use it on a daily basis. I would only recommend this for those with normal or oily skin, because it may be a bit drying for some. 

The Magnum Volum’ Express Waterproof Mascara

Basically this is the perfect summer mascara. It lengthen an curls your lashes well, but isn’t too dramatic so you can wear it every day. It is also waterproof so it won’t sweat off in the hot sun nor is there any fallout or flakiness. I have a full review HERE if you are interested.

Cosmetica Manicare Rounded Blending Brush

I'm sorry that I won't stop banging on about this brush, but I do love it. I use it everyday under my eyes to blend out my Bobbi Brown Corrector and it works a treat. If you want to know any more about this brush its all in my everyday face brushes post HERE, but I do highly recommend this brush!

MAC Powder Blush in Fleur Power

As you can see this has been a very well loved product! It is the perfect dusty rose blush for my skin tone and is a little bit muted so I can wear it every day and it will go with anything. I've only had this for a year so the fact that I have hit pan that much already, goes to show how much I really do love it. I think it is a great basic blush for any collection and I'll be quite sad when I finally use it all up. 

MAC Eyeshadow in Naked Lunch

This isn’t just a January favourite; this is an every day, every night, all year round favourite. It’s basically just a beautiful light champagne colour and I absolutely adore it. Naked Lunch is so fuss free and looks great with a nice light matte brown in the crease during the day or something more dramatic like MAC’s Satin Taupe at night. I must say this colour is fairly similar to Sin out of Urban Decay’s Naked palate, so you probably don’t need both, but this is definitely my most worn eye shadow.

Carmex Classic Lip Balm
I'm not too sure where I would be in life if I didn't have this little pot of gold. Its perfect for the hot (over forty degrees Celsius) weather we've had this past month and is the remedy to any chapped lip. It goes with me everywhere so its a little battered on the outside but it still works like a gem!

Rimmel London Kate Moss Lipstick in #16 

I recently purchased this lipstick in my recent drugstore haul which you can check out HERE if you are interested. I have worn this non stop; to work, out shopping, to two birthday parties and a few gatherings... I just can't get enough of it. It is a bright pinky coral and has a great lasting finish, this has definitely been my summer obsession.

Chanel Poudre Universelle Compact

Natural Finish Pressed Powder in 20 Clare – Translucent 1

Hey there! I’m going to be completely honest with you here and admit, I was conned into buying this product initially for the brand (consumerism at its finest). It is definitely one of the most expensive single products of my makeup collection but, I justified the expensive price tag by ensuring it was a staple makeup item that I would definitely get daily use of (plus it’s Chanel!)

 Pros: Let’s just get this out of the way, the packaging is gorgeous. It is timeless, chic but at the same time very practical. It comes with a mirror that covers the entire inner face and (before I used it) the printed ‘CHANEL’ in the actual powder was a very luxurious touch. The product itself is very good; in terms of a translucent powder it doesn’t leave the face chalky or looking very flat. It is very finely milled, as you would expect, so it applies easily and evenly to the skin. It is great at controlling shine and has a commendable lasting power. You also get a fairly reasonable amount of product in the pan, having a net weight of 15g (in terms of a reference a MAC Mineralised Skin Finish Natural is only 10g)

Cons: The most obvious con and possibly the only one would have to be the hefty price tag. There a million and one powders on the market that do the same job as this product for a fraction of the price. I don’t exactly believe that it was worth the money but at the same time I don’t regret buying it as it was a very luxurious  product that I know I will use. This may seem obvious but it might be worth mentioning that as this is a translucent powder it doesn’t provide any coverage.

The Verdict: If you are looking to buy a good translucent powder and have the cash to spend then I would recommend this one, or if you are looking for a versatile Chanel product that you will definitely use then this would be a commendable choice. On the other hand, you could definitely save yourself a few dollars and buy a cheaper setting powder and put the extra change away for a rainy day. This really isn’t a must-have product and I don’t see myself repurchasing it in the future but all in all, it does its job very well and I am a sucker when it comes to Chanel!

My Everyday Face Brushes

 Hey there! Here is just a little run down of the brushes I use on an everyday basis. As you will see, I'm not very faithful to a single brand of brushes but experimenting is good, and I think I have found the perfect (or close to it) combination of brushes.

Brushes in the same order (left to right) as shown in the picture above:

MAC: 129 Powder/Blush Brush- I use this brush to apply setting powder all of my face. If I'm going to be honest I must say that I don’t particularly think this brush is worth the hefty price tag; I think there are definitely more wallet friendly brushes on the market that could do the same job. In saying that, I do use this brush every day, I think it’s the perfect size and its described as 'natural soft with grab' so its not to dense nor is it too fluffy.

Napoloen Perdis: Powder/Blush Brush- This brush is extremely similar to the MAC 129, it is just ever so slightly smaller and is slightly more dense, so it is perfect for applying blush. I do really like Napoleon brushes and I hope to expand my collection in the future.

Real Techniques: Buffing Brush- I’m sure you have all heard a million and one things about this brush but it truly does receive every bit of praise it gets. It is extremely dense so it is perfect for buffing in liquid foundation/BB crème or even just packing on face powder. The fibres are all synthetic so they don’t absorb half of the foundation and it makes cleaning it a breeze. They are also reasonably priced, but unfortunately most of the Real Technique brushes come in sets, this one came with the Core Collection brush set. If you’re from Australia the only place (I know of) where you can pick these up are Priceline.

Real Techniques: Contour Brush- This is probably my favourite brush of the lot, it is absolutely perfect. I have used it for both contouring and applying blush, in fact I am extremely tempted to go by another Core Collection brush set, just so I can have two of these brushes. The tapered bristles make applying your contour colour a breeze, it is the perfect density and the synthetic fibres once again make cleaning it super easy. I won’t say too much more because I am planning to do an upcoming review on a few of the brush sets from Real Techniques.

Cosmetica Manicare: Rounded Blending Brush- I do believe traditionally this brush was intended for blending your eye shadows (which it does do brilliantly), but I personally use it to buff in my Bobbi Brown Corrector underneath my eyes and apply the setting powder on top of it also. This is a great multipurpose brush and I am thinking about going back and picking up another one so I do in fact have one for under my eyes and one for my eye shadows. Once again the bristles are synthetic but they don’t feel cheap, which was something I was sceptical about upon purchasing this brush. I believe it was $15 so it’s not the best or the worst pricing, but it does do its job well. Just to clarify, the order in which I use these brushes are as follows: Real Techniques Buffing Brush, Cosmetica Manicare Rounded Blending Brush, MAC 129, Real Techniques Contour Brush and then finally the Napoleon Powder/Blush Brush.

I would love to try some new brushes, especially eye brushes actually, so if you do have any recommendations pleeeease leave them in the comments. I hope you are all having a lovely day!

NOTD: Charming Lavender

Hey there! Apologies for the quick little post, but I'm trying to get through the mountain of holiday homework I have to do! Here is what I have been wearing on my nails since I acquired these polishes this month. Each finger has two coats of the Revlon 211 'Charming' nail polish and on both my ring finger and thumb there is an additional coat of the Revlon 230 'Popular' Polish.

(Left) Revlon 211 'Charming'- this a gorgeous almost pastel lavender colour that is very opaque and it really is a gorgeous spring or summer colour.

(Right) Revlon 230 'Popular'- this is a very sheer purple colour (it has a bit more pink in it than Charming) with both silver glitter and small sequin/flecks. To be honest I was a bit disappointed when I first got this polish as it isn't opaque at all, but I love wearing it on top of other polishes such as Charming. 

As you can see I'm not the very best at painting nails but I really wanted to show you this pretty combo! I hope you are all well and having a lovely day wherever you may be.

Maybelline Clear Smooth Powder Review

Maybelline Clear Smooth Shine Free Face Powder

Whilst holidaying in Bali about eight months ago, I picked up this product on a whim in a department store for about AU$4.00 or something crazy like that.

Pros: This powder does live up to its name in terms of having a smooth consistency; the texture is gorgeous especially considering its incredibly small price tag. It could be worn by itself as a light coverage powder or on top of foundation to set it and provide greater coverage. The packaging is also very cute as it is a sea foam/light turquoise and is very compact so it would be great for travelling.

Cons: Although it claims to leave a ‘shine free face’, its oil control capabilities are not top notch. I find that after a mere few hours my skin feels and appears oily.  Personally, the colour match isn’t perfect, but I can’t exactly blame the product for my poor colour choice. Something that also might be worth mentioning is that you don’t get a lot of actual product in the compact but as I said, I only paid $4.00 so I’m not complaining.

In order to summarise this synopsis of the Maybelline Clear Smooth Powder, I would only recommended it to those who do not have oily skin or those who wish to wear it solo as a light coverage powder foundation, as it has a lovely texture and would suit  many who have skin with a yellow undertone.  I personally will not be repurchasing this powder although I probably will use the remaining product in the cooler months or to events where I don’t want to take expensive products such as stage productions; when I need a darker powder to set foundation and give a fuller coverage.  

Side Note: I usually would posta photo of my own personal product but to be honest mine is looking a little bit worse for wear, please forgive me?

Another Little Drugstore Haul

 Hey there! Let's face it, it was inevitable this was going to happen, I even foreshadowed it in my previous haul. The sales were just too good for me to resist and before I knew it I found myself back through the Chemist Warehouse doors trying to juggle these products to the counter- did I mention it was 50% off all cosmetics?

Unfortunately somehow I've already managed to misplace the receipt so unfortunately I won't be able to give you the prices exactly, but I'll give you the rough amount. 

Revlon Colorstay Nail Polish in 300 ‘ Bare Bones’ – the name give a pretty good indication of the colour, it is a very light mushroom/off white colour. I've been on the hunt for a colour like this for quite sometime and when Estée aka Essiebutton (I'm her biggest fan) mentioned this in one of her videos a just knew I had to get it! Sale Price: AU$8-ish

Maybelline Baby Lips in Cherry Velvet - this was definitely an impulse buy, but I've used these lip balms before and really liked it. Sale Price: AU$1.50-ish

Maybelline Color Tattoo in 05 Too Cool- these crème eye shadows/bases are very versatile and really do stay put all day (maybe not 24hrs as it claim but still...) I own a couple others but I wanted one that I can used on more of a regular basis, and this icy white could definitely be used as a brow bone highlight or as a bases for an array of eye shadows. Sale Price AU$4-ish

Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Lip Protectant- I will just tell you right now that the Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream original is a miracle worker and I do often used it on my chapped lips when they are at their worst. This little tin will be more convenient for when I'm out and about so I'm sure I'll get plenty of use of it. Sale Price AU$5.00 

Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Lovesick- I've heard plenty of people recommend these little beauties so I thought I should just give them a try. Sale Price AU$8-ish

Maybelline Dream LUMItouch Highlighting Concealer in 002 Nude- I've been looking for something to brighten up my under eye area and Zoe aka Zoella gave this little product a lot of praise, so I'll test it out and hopefully it does the job! Sale Price AU$4-ish

Revlon Colorstay Liquid Eye Pen in 01 Blackest Black- This was the most expensive product of this shopping trip but I have been meaning to try out some new liquid eyeliners, I wanted one with a greater staying power and with a bit more precision. This one seems to tick all the boxes and I am excited to try it out. Sale Price AU$15-ish

Maybelline: The Magnum Volum’ Express (Waterproof) Review

   

This mascara may have familiar looking packaging to some of you, in fact beside the actual title, the tube is practically identical to another Maybelline mascara ‘The Colossal’, but do not be fooled, i assure they are not the same product! Although I do not currently have possession of ‘The Colossal’, to do a side by side comparison, I have used it in the past and can tell you that even the wand itself is completely different. I’m getting side-tracked sorry! Basically, just be aware that they are different, so this post is not relevant to any who wish to purchase The Colossal. The Magnum is distributed in mainly in the countries of Asia (I bought mine when I was holidaying in Bali), so I apologise to all who may find this a bit tricky to get their hands on!

The Wand: It is a relatively average sized wand; not too big, not too small. As you can see it is curved which is great for those with poker straight lashes who need help with curling their lashes. The bristles are synthetic and mainly on the both sides of the wand, not on the top or underneath.

The Product: Although this product is a part of the Volum’ Express line, I would have to say I consider this a lengthening mascara. It does give some volume as it makes my lashes seem fuller at the base . It seperate the lashs nicely and does not clump, but above all I would recommend this for a person wishing to lengthen and curl their lashes.

Wear: This product does last a ‘9 til 5’, but the curl will slowly drop as the day goes on. I own the waterproof mascara so I do not have any issue with smudging, it can handle the general wear and tear of a winter’s day, but I would not recommend this for anyone who plans going swimming. To remove this mascara I recommend using an oil based eye makeup remover.

 

The Verdict: I reaaaally like this mascara! It is definitely my favourite that I have tried so far in terms of daily use. It is reasonably priced and does not dry up quickly. I really wish they were accessible in Australia and I do highly recommend this product to anyone who can get their hands on it.

A Little Drugstore Haul

Hey there! I just did a little bit of shopping the other day and discovered that the Chemist Warehouse (to my fellow Australians, it’s the big yellow chemist franchise) was having a 50% all cosmetics sale. Considering that drugstore makeup is getting to be almost as expensive as some high-end brands I thought I had better take this opportunity and pick up a few bits. The sale is still on so I am thinking I may need to go back and grab a few more products! Anywho, here are the few items that I did purchase on shopping trip number one…

Revlon Nail Polish in 211‘Charming’ – this is a very opaque pale purple/lavender nail polish which I had had my eye on for quite some time.

Rimmel Kate Moss Lipsticks in shades (from left to right)

                 20- A bright fuchsia

                 12- An orange coral

                 16- A pinky/apricot coral

 I own other Rimmel lipsticks from this line and really liked them. They are very pigmented and have great lasting power so I couldn’t resist buying some more. Side Note: Last night I wore a mixture of no. 12 and no. 16 to get the perfect coral!

Maybelline One By One Mascara- I bought this mainly as a backup for when my current mascara runs out, I have heard good things about this mascara though and it claims to create ‘clump-free big volume’.

Rimmel Exaggerate Waterproof  Eye Definer in 26 Nior- I have a confession; I haven’t had a black pencil liner in my collection for about three years now, so I thought it was time to buy one. I own the liquid eyeliner from the Exaggerate line which I am quite a fan of so I thought why not grab the pencil version too!

Side Note: I have changed my mind (sorry) about the whole review series. Instead of boring you all with four foundation reviews in a row, I think I will just mix it up a bit and might do for example a mascara review and a foundation review in one week and that is all. A Quick Update

Hey there! I apologies in advance for the average post I am about to make, but I just wanted to give you all a quick little update! I am about to go on a (very) short holiday with my family, by short I mean about five days maybe six. Unfortunately I will have no access to Wifi or internet of any sort – how will I survive?! Hence my blog will not be updated for a few days, but whilst I am away I plan to make a little start on an upcoming ‘series’, if you will, where I basically just review and compare all of the fundamental products of my makeup collection. It would be like a weekly thing for example, week one may be foundations, where I would review a few of my foundations and then week two may be pressed powders where I review four of my setting powder ect. Ill then set up a little page on in my side bar called ‘Reviews’ (super original, I know), so they can easily be accessed for many months to come, especially when I mention the products in future posts!

I think that’s pretty much all I had to say,  I look forward to seeing you in a week, after I have undertaken many a bush walks, roasting/burning some delicious marshmallows and fingers crossed, maybe even catching a fish!

Taylor Swift's Wonderstruck Vs. Wonderstruck Enchanted

Hey There! A little fact about you may not know about me is that I am a huuuuge Taylor Swift fan (or a ‘Swifty’ if you will)! It is because of this I, like many, went through the major dilemma of not knowing which one of her two perfumes to purchase (huge crisis, I know!) Luckily enough I received the ‘Wonderstruck Enchanted’ perfume recently for Christmas and my sister receives the ‘Wonderstruck’ original. So, to help out future Swifties or perfume lovers going through the same dilemma, I have comprised a little review and comparison of the perfumes to assist you in make your final decision!

Wonderstruck
Official Blurb: ‘In this fragrance, [is] a charming and sparkling surprise of vibrant fruits kisses a bouquet of soft petals and a touch of sweet indulgence.’
Head Notes: Blackberry, Raspberry, Freesia, Tea, & Apple Blossom
Heart Notes: Vanilla, Honey Suckle & Hibiscus
Base Notes: Musk, Sandalwood, Amber & Peach
Packaging: A muted purple, rounded bottle, with a really original iridescent, reflective finish. It comes with a chain of three golden charms around the neck of the bottle; a open cage, a bird flying and a spiked ball structure.

 Personal Synopsis: This perfume is a very fun and a lot lighter than Wonderstruck Enchanted, but in saying that it is still a very noticeable/stand out fragrance. I believe it would be great for daily wear especially in the warmer months. It is a very sweet, so it may not be everyone’s cup of tea but it wears nicely! It is definitely a fruity scent and I assume it is targeted at younger audiences (sorry to all the senior Swifties).

 Wonderstruck Enchanted

Official Blurb: An irresistible blend of luscious wild berries and sugar-glazed petals are wrapped in a touch of sensuality for a captivating signature.
Head Notes: Passionfruit, Poppy & Wildberry
Heart Notes: Peony, Champaca, Sugar & Freesia
Base Notes: Musk, Woody Notes & Vanilla
Packaging: A crimson red rounded bottle, with the same iridescent, reflective finish. It also comes with a chain of golden charms around the neck of the bottle.

 Personal Synopsis: This perfume is a lot deeper and richer than the original Wonderstruck so it is perfect for the colder months or would work perfectly as a night time scent. I would consider it sweet and fruity although more mature as it is a little warmer and spicer, so even the eldest of Swifties can wear it!

The Verdict: These two perfumes do carry some similar traits including the sweet berry and sugary notes as well as the vanilla and slight woody undertones. I will just put this out there right now; if you are not into the sweeter scents then I recommend you steer clear of this duo. If you are intending to wear this on a daily basis I would recommend going for the original Wonderstruck or for a more luxurious ‘special occasion’ scent the Wonderstruck Enchanted may be a more appropriate choice. The lasting power for both is moderate; it gets through just about the whole day in fact! I personally prefer the original Wonderstruck mainly for the peachy and a freesia notes. I’m sure I don’t need to say this but obviously everyone’s taste in perfume is different, what one person loves another person may hate, so I highly recommend grabbing a sample of each, keeping them for a few days and then deciding which one you’d prefer.

How To: Analyse & Describe Perfumes

Hey There! I know this may not interest some of you but, in the future (hint: next post) I plan on doing a few perfume reviews and comparisons, so I thought first it would be best to give you a quick background on how to analyse perfumes. As many of you would know perfumes are comprised of the single component scents known as notes. A perfume is created by layering an array of notes to produce an individual fragrance/scent. What you may not know is there are three main platforms of notes (which may be visually represented in the form of a pyramid) these are:

1.       Top or Head Notes- these are the notes that are perceived first upon the initial application of the perfume. They are typically described as fresh, assertive or sharp. Common head notes include citrus and ginger.

2.      Middle or Heart Notes- form the main theme of the perfume in accordance to the base notes. They are typically described as more rounded and mellow than the head notes. Common heart notes include lavender and rose. 



3.      Base Notes- are the notes that form the depth and solidity of a perfume and are often the longest lasting. They are typically described as rich and deep. Common base notes are musk and sandalwood.

Furthermore, perfumes more commonly categorised in accordance to when they most appropriate to wear. You will often hear them referred to what season they suit; Summer/Autumn/Winter/Spring or when they are worn; Day/Night.

Heavier scents are often allocated to be worn in autumn and winter or during the night.

Lighter and fresher scents are allocated to be worn in summer and spring or during the daytime.

Quick Tip: Perfumes do have an expiry date but to ensure you get the longest amount of use of you perfumes it is important to not store the bottles in sunlight (windowsills are a big no-no) and try keep them in a cool area.

New Years Resolutions for 2013

Hey There! It feels like only yesterday that it was the start of 2012 but, believe it or not,a whole year has just gone by and now, ready or not, we are about to face a newone. I am now 365 days older than I was last January, hence I am now 365 daywiser and if there was one thing I learnt from 2012 it was this: PLANNING ISIMPORTANT! Before I get too ahead of myself I should probably point out why Iam making this post. Basically I want to have a written down and publicallypublished copy of my goals for 2013, so I can refer back to them regularly aswell as use this as an element of motivation. Basically there are four mainareas of my life which I want to put the most energy towards in 2013 which kindof ties in with the typical New Year’s resolutions concept.

These areas include:

1.      Schooling; itbeing my final year of high school, it is the one year that really that counts!To get the ATAR I need for my desired university course I must study, study and… you guessed it, study!
Plan of attack: Study at least fourdays a week at a bare minimum, keep track of my study sessions, be harder on myselfin terms of discipline and always put my study first!

2.     AshsBeautyBag; Ireally am passionate about this newly created blog, it’s been something I’vewanted to do for a very long time and now I have finally pushed myself to doit! I’ve already got a list of posts I want to do and I cannot wait to get themoff the ground!

Plan of attack: Create a regular posting schedule which entails three blogposts a week. At the moment I am thinking Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundaysalthough depending on your time zone this may in fact be Tuesdays, Thursdaysand Saturdays.

3.     Health; I know this seems likea common goal but I really want to try to eat clean and exercise regularly toimprove my fitness levels and for toning purposes.

      Plan of attack: Aim to go to the gym a minimum of two times a week in Januaryand then get into a consistent routine when the school year starts. To controlmy eating I will keep a diary or Myfitnesspal account to help motivate and keeptrack of what I’m eating.

4.     Organisation; I’llbe the first one to admit this, I am a VERY unorganised person and it is one ofthe things I dislike most about myself. I am always late, I lose everything Iown and I struggle to keep my room neat, but this year I will strive to changethis!
Plan of attack: Increase my self-disciplineby not allowing myself any free time until my room is clean; which will need tobe done daily. To keep track of past and future events I will need to keep adiary and finally create a weekly schedule to plan my forthcoming days.

I’m sorry if this was a bit of a boring post, I really don’t expect anyone to read it but…there we have it, my New Year’s resolutions for 2013 (fingers crossed they last)!
